230606: Music games

We have been playing some music games as part of our classes at school. Students may want to play these at home on their own computers or devices. I have a brief description of each game, followed by a link to the game site.

One of our favorites here is the game Incredibox. By sliding tiles up to a performer, you can create your own beatboxing band. The web site lets you access four free songs, and there are five others that come with a paid app. You don’t need to pay to have fun playing this game.

Blob Opera has quickly become a student favorite. By stretching the blobs you can get them to sing with operatic voices. There are also songs from around the world you can have them “sing” while you make one blob the soloist.

Choir is a similar game. You open the mouth at the center of the choir to make it sing, and the other mouths create harmonies to go with it. If you are not using a touch screen device, you need to press and hold the mouse button to make the mouth open.

Kandinsky is a combination music and art game. You use your mouse to draw shapes and lines on the “canvas” in the style of the artist Wassily Kandinsky. Each line will make musical sounds when you play the loop. Closed loops will get faces and sing, while lines and dots will make instrumental sounds.

I hope you enjoy playing these musical games! Which one is your favorite?
